The Kansas City Chiefs were one of the greatest teams the AFL ever saw. They won three AFL championships (1962, ’66, and ’69) which earned them two trips to the Super Bowl. They actually played in the first ever Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers who were led by head coach Vince Lombardi and quarterback Bart Starr. The Chiefs were led by head coach Hank Stram and quarterback Len Dawson, but they couldn’t pull off the win and fell to the Packers 35-10.
The Chiefs did, however, get their first Super Bowl win in its fourth edition. They took on the Minnesota Vikings who featured All-Pro and now Hall of Fame defensive lineman Alan Page. In spite of Page’s efforts, the Vikings lost to the Chiefs by a score of 23-7. The next season the franchise joined the NFL.
These days the Chiefs are coached by former Jets head coach Herm Edwards. Edwards is best known for his press conferences where he yelled the phrase “You play to win the games!!!” Larry Johnson is the man who makes this offense go. After Preist Holmes went down to an injury it was LJ that stepped up and carried the O. Tight end Tony Gonzalez is also a big part of the offense. He is faster than most linebackers and is stronger than secondary players so he’s almost impossible to cover.
