The 2005 NBA season has been everything but predictable. With powerhouse teams of yesteryear not even making it to the playoffs, and teams that have had previous trouble achieving a positive ratio now showing the NBA they mean business.
Championship contenders last year, the Los Angeles Lakers struggled through the 2005 season - losing 47 matches. What about the other '04 hotshots, the Minnesota Timberwolves? Now barely scraping together more wins than losses and missing out on the playoffs altogether.
Acting as the solid foundations in this unusal season have been the ever-consistant San Antonio Spurs. Even with star Tim Duncan missing 16 games, the versatile Spurs have cruised into the Playoffs with only the Memphis Grizzlies giving them much trouble towards the end. Although the Phoenix suns are sitting at the top of the Western Conference, they know the road ahead is not going to get any easier.
Meanwhile in the Eastern Conference, strong starters Miami Heat are starting to panic as they look to be stumbling in sight of the finishing line, while 2004 champions Detroit Pistons are storming home with an 11 game streak already!
Even as these unpredictable events unfold, there will always be one persistant winner - The Fans.
